As reported by Anime News Network, a copy of next weeks issue of Weekly Shounen Jump that was leaked early has confirmed that Fuji TV will be broadcasting a new anime series based on the Toriko manga. The new anime series is slated to premiere in April 2011 and will be taking over the DragonBall Kai time slot at 9 AM on Sunday mornings before the One Piece anime series.
There has been no confirmation yet from either Fuji TV or Toei Animation as to what exactly will happen to Kai. There seems to be only three options at this point; the series will be relocated to a different time slot on Fuji TV, the series will be put on a long-term hiatus, or the series will be canceled all together. While we don't know for sure what will happen, here's what we do know...
As of right now the series is set to run up to at least 98 episodes, as stated on Happinet's official release website. With episode 86 of Kai airing this weekend, the final Cell arc episode of the series will air sometime near the end of March 2011, aligning perfectly with the April time schedule listed above. And if this truly is the end of Kai, the series will have been in syndication for exactly two years. Also, any possible cancellation surely can't stem from poor TV ratings, as the series has been one of the top 10 rated anime series every week since syndication began in April 2009.
So now, we DragonBall fans play the waiting game once more. So keep your rumor pants on kids, because this could get pretty interesting... or go no absolutely where. Nevertheless, we'll be sure to keep you posted.

Jump Festa, an annual anime and manga convention hosted by Shueisha, will be held this weekend in Tokyo, Japan. Amongst the event schedule is a 30-minute "DragonBall Kai Special Talks Stage", which will be hosted by seiyuu from the series on Sunday (12/19) at 1:00pm. With the recent Toriko anime news, we may finally find out something about the fate of Kai. Unless the question is listed as completely off limits, I can't imagine that we wouldn't find out at least a little bit about it.
Last year the talks were hosted by Nozawa Masako (Goku) and Nakao Ryusei (Freeza), as that is where the series was at that point. Unfortunately it hasn't been announced who will be speaking this year, but I wouldn't be all too surprised if it were Nozawa Masako (Goku) and Wakamoto Norio (Cell). Regardless, we'll be sure to try and keep tabs on what happens this year.
